Music holds a vibrant and central place in the heart of SJUMC. Throughout the year the Chancel Choir presents music for each liturgical season, featuring a children’s procession on Palm Sunday and participation in an ecumenical joint choir on Good Friday. The Christmas season highlights special advent anthems and culminates in a Christmas Eve pre-worship concert followed by worship through carols and scripture. Special musical guests are heard throughout the year with at least two Sundays featuring the RiverBells handbell choir under the direction of Paul W. Allen. For more information or to join the Chancel Choir, please contact Lyssa Ogilbee at sjumchoir@gmail.com.

The Chancel Choir
The Chancel Choir presents sacred choral music during Sunday morning worship services. The choir meets September through June. Practices are Mondays at 7:00 PM in the sanctuary. Audio practice recordings are available for those not able to join us at Monday rehearsal. If you are interested in joining the choir, please contact Lyssa Ogilbee at sjumchoir@gmail.com to arrange a meeting.
RiverBells Sacramento
RiverBells is a professional-quality, community English handbell ensemble in the Sacramento area. RiverBells is quite active – and has several concerts coming up in the spring. On Sunday, April 30th at 3:00pm there is a concert called “Bells Ain’t Just for Christmas Concert” at the Harris Center for the Performing Arts in Rancho Cordova, and you can purchase tickets for this through their website. We will also host our season-ending concert at SJUMC on Sunday, May 21st, 3:00pm called the “Swingin’ Summer Stomp.” Tickets for this concert will go on sale May 1st. Please visit our website. We will take a large part of the summer off, but resume meeting on Wednesday evening, September 6th, 7:00pm at the church. If you are interested in learning to read music and/or learning to ring handbells – yes, we can do BOTH at the same time! – then plan to come on September 6th at 6:00pm to begin your training.
