To SJUMC families and friends,
We were recently notified by someone who attended the funeral service last Saturday (July 24th) that they have since tested positive for COVID. We are in the process of contacting everyone who registered for the service via contact tracing.
Please be assured that everyone’s safety is our priority. After the service, we cleaned the Sanctuary and the rooms used during the funeral service using aerosol sprays and anti-bacterial wipes on touch points, which is our normal practice after every worship service. We also took everyone’s temperature and asked COVID symptom questions when they entered the Narthex, and everyone wore masks inside the Sanctuary. The funeral service was only open to family and friends, and not open to the public.
Also the person who was tested positive passed our temperature test at our reception desk as well as the person answered no to our COVID symptom questions. The person did not develop COVID symptom until yesterday (27th), and tested positive today (28th) so we think it is very unlikely that he was contagious last Saturday. The person was vaccinated and currently has cold like symptoms (please pray for this person not to get worse)
We believe that Rev Motoe and Ryland were the only two who attended the funeral and came to the Sunday service the next day. Both are fully vaccinated but is getting a COVID test and will wait for the results. Rev Motoe is going on a planned vacation starting August 1st, and a guest preacher will be filling in for her on Sunday.
We pray for everyone’s safety during this pandemic. May God bless and watch over us all.
Grace and Peace,
Sacramento Japanese United Methodist Church, the Garden Church.
